How Big Is Cyber Monday Anyway?

At this point, I’m sure you’ve heard that Black Friday and Cyber Monday are kind of a big deal. But how big?

Some analysts projected $6.6 billion in online sales for Cyber Monday, but to most of us, that number isn't tangible. So we took a look at it compared to a normal Monday[1], and here's what we found out:

Cyber Monday traffic is about 5.5x greater than an average Monday. That’s pretty big.

And what about Black Friday?

Black Friday is about 4.7x busier than a normal Friday. Also pretty big.

But what people pay a lot less attention to is how big the entire Thanksgiving weekend is. Check it out:

Shopping activity over Thanksgiving weekend is significantly greater than a normal weekend by at least 150% on any given day.

So now we know this: Cyber Monday and Black Friday are HUGE! We’re starting to see that people are shopping throughout the weekend too. But why? Many retailers have begun running their sales all weekend long in order to distribute the load and reduce the chances of catastrophic outages like Macy's suffered on Black Friday last year.

Did you shop online during Thanksgiving weekend this year? Snag any big deals? Let us know in the comments!
